Mr. Speer has earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Georgia State University College of Law in 1988. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1989. Mr. Speer is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Blue Ridge (Cherokee County) Bar Association.

Honors and Achievements

  • Representation of plaintiff in controversial case of Griffiths v. Schafer, 478 S.E.2d 625 (1996), which went to the Court of Appeals of Georgia
  • Acted as local counsel in Georgia for defendant in high-profile case of United States of America v. LaVista
  • Overturned, in federal court, a state law that would have prohibited use of public records for commercial use, in Speer v. Miller, 15 F.3d 1007 (11th Cir. 1994). Established federal legal precedent in the area of First Amendment law.
